Importance of Inclusive Sports
Diversity is the mix; Inclusion is making the mix work
Diversity and Inclusion has been the talk of the town recently – but what does that actually mean? Inclusion is the effort and practices in which different groups or individuals having different backgrounds are socially and culturally accepted. These differences ranges from age, race, religion, mobility and even cognitive abilities. Read more about inclusion on the Global Diversity Practice webpage!
Thus, EduSort now presents 2 inclusive sports for participants of all ages – Goalball and Sitting Volleyball!
Why are Inclusive Sports Important?
1. It builds everlasting bonds
Firstly, sports can serve to bond people within society and hence, sports inclusion, whereby persons of varying abilities can take part in sports together, can play a large party in helping to build a cohesive society.
2. It cultivates empathy
Unified Sports supports the development of friendships, as well as social inclusion. Research has shown that most able-bodied individuals said that they had developed a greater understanding of people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
3. It promotes tolerance
Exclusion fuels the fear of difference. Inclusion, on the other hand, fuels acceptance. Inclusive sports allows everyone to play together despite their differences. This ultimately results in less bullying, teasing, and other acts of intolerance.
